Geography
1. Location and Boundaries
Edavilangu Grama Panchayat is situated in Kodungallur Taluk of Thrissur district. It is a coastal region located along the Arabian Sea.
- East: Canoli Canal (which separates the Panchayat from Eriyad and Kodungallur Municipality)
- West: Arabian Sea
- South: Eriyad Grama Panchayat
- North: Sreenarayanapuram Grama Panchayat
2. Topography
Since it is a coastal region, the area is completely flat. Sandy soil, a common feature of coastal areas, is found in most parts of the Panchayat. More fertile alluvial soil can be seen in the eastern regions near the Canoli Canal.
3. Water Bodies
- Arabian Sea: The entire western boundary of the Panchayat is coastline.
- Canoli Canal: Flowing along the eastern boundary, this canal is an important waterway and an inland fishing center of the region.
Apart from these, there are several streams and ponds in the area used for agriculture and domestic purposes.
4. Climate and Agriculture
The region experiences the typical tropical climate of Kerala. Since it is close to the sea, humidity in the atmosphere is generally high.
Main Crops
Coconut cultivation is the most important agricultural activity because of the coastal soil conditions. Vegetable farming is also common in sandy areas.
Fishing
Marine fishing in the Arabian Sea and inland fishing in the Canoli Canal are the major sources of livelihood for the local people.
